Our history

Xanthous Tech began with client software projects and grew into a small team of developers and designers building independent products. This timeline preserves the milestones from our original company website.

June 2026 — X-late acquired

June 1, 2026

X-late, our Slack translation app, was acquired by Tech Artists SRL in Romania. The app had grown to help teams around the world communicate across languages. The acquisition marked the handover of the product to its new owner.

January 2024 — X-late 2.0

January 22, 2024

As client projects wrapped up in 2023, we began shifting our focus toward our own products. We simplified X-late's codebase and features, cleared technical debt, and released version 2.0. The goal was to keep a focused product simple and maintainable.

March 2023 — Our first X-late customer

March 11, 2023

X-late's first paying customer found us without a formal marketing campaign. An email about the app's features led to a conversation, some product simplification, and our first sale. It was an early lesson in listening closely to the people using what we build.

March 2022 — X-late 1.0

March 11, 2022

After using X-late within our team and with clients, we released it publicly. Bringing our first product to launch taught us how much work goes into the final details, even when the core features already work.

June 2020 — Starting X-late

June 20, 2020

Working remotely in multilingual Slack teams exposed a recurring communication problem. We could not find a solution that met our needs, so we built a prototype and tried it within our own team. That experiment became X-late.

January 2019 — Starting X-Tech

January 1, 2019

Following several years of freelance and agency work, we started X-Tech as a remote company. Our client work included prototypes for startups that went on to raise venture capital, as well as contracts with Fortune 500 companies.

We built the company around a small team of developers and designers who enjoyed making useful software and collaborating with people who cared about their products.

July 2017 — Freelance beginnings

July 1, 2017

Our founder began freelancing on Upwork after the SaaS startup he worked for closed. Drawing on experience as a startup technical lead and software development engineer at Amazon, he took on a growing range of client projects. Over the following two years, he became a top-rated freelancer with a 100% job success score.
